It is only natural that computer users are concerned with their online security, but very often they do not know which programs they can trust to protect them from harm. Surf Safer may sound like a decent application that should enhance your online security. However, what legitimate program would need to take a free ride with third-party applications to reach you? This is exactly what Surf Safer does, and, if you are not careful about it, this program might as well redirect you to unfamiliar websites that are related to malware distributors. In short, Surf Safer is an adware program, and, if you do not remove it from your PC, you could face severe security threats.

Naturally, adware programs do not infect computers to cause havoc or destroy a system irrevocably. Surf Safer and other similar applications have been developed to help their creators make money. Adware programs do that by displaying third-party advertisements on affiliated websites. Depending on a program’s algorithm, the ads may appear only on selected websites or on a vast majority of web pages that support third-party ads. The point is that promoting commercial content is probably the main objective of Surf Safer. Therefore, the application clearly cannot protect you from potential security threats you may encounter online.

What’s more, it is impossible to download the application from its main website. The homepage is located at surf-safer.com, and it says that your “web security shouldn’t be a gamble.” Surf Safer comes from a security application that is “free forever,” “self-updating,” and “cross-compatible.” The latter means that “with a single installation, Surf Safer kicks into gear to keep you in safer hands across major web browsers.” Now, as far as that claim is concerned, the application is compatible only with Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, so it is not like it can keep you safe “across major web browsers.”

Not to mention that if you click the download button, you will be greeted with a message that says the program is currently unavailable. This means that the primary distribution method employed by Surf Safer (at least at the moment) is software bundles. Whenever you download a freeware application from a file-sharing website, you have to keep in mind that Surf Safer might come with it. Adware apps are often distributed via third-party installers, and users are simply too lazy to read all the installation wizard steps to leave unwanted programs out. As a result, the likes of Surf Safer easily get set up on target computers, and, before you know it, you are spammed with commercial content.

Thankfully, this program is not a major computer infection, and it should not be hard to remove. First, you will have to locate your %PROGRAMFILES% and %PROGRAMFILES(x86)% directories to remove Surf Safer and Bench file folders. This application cannot be uninstalled via Control Panel, so you need to do some of the deleting yourself. If you find it too tedious, you can simply remove Surf Safer from your extension and then acquire a powerful antispyware application. A computer security tool of your choice will help you get rid of all the remaining files and applications that could prove to be dangerous to your system security.
