We want to fill you in about a recently discovered adware called SideTab that is set to show invasive advertisements on your computer’s desktop. Not only are the ads annoying but they can also subject you to questionable and possibly malicious content. Furthermore, this program can collect information about your browsing statistics and preferences and use it to tailor the ads. Due to its unreliability, we advise that you remove it from your PC. However, if you are not convinced, then we invite you to read this whole article which will prove to you that this program is no good.

Let us start the analysis with SideTab’s origins. From the outset, it became clear that we were dealing with a shady application because it features no information about the company that created it. Its files, however, were digitally signed by a publisher called NBIZ, but there is no additional information available about this publisher, and its name may be fake altogether. As you can see, this program comes from an unknown source and, therefore, its developers cannot be held responsible in case this application starts promoting malicious content. Now let us take a look at how SideTab is being distributed.

Our research has shown that this program is currently being distributed on a dedicated website at Softinside.co.kr. The website is in the Korean language, and the whole adware is in Korean as well. Therefore, it seems that it was created for the Korean market, but that does not mean that you can get it only from that website. This application is also being disseminated with the help of malicious installers. These installers are often used to install bundled software, so in the worst scenario, you can get SideTab accidentally while installing a third-party applications. Nevertheless, some installers might allow you to deselect its installation, but you have to opt for advanced installation settings to do this.

If you install this adware, then get ready to see some annoying and invasive advertisements. While testing it, we observed that it is prone to promote computer components and other electronic devices. However, we fear that this program can be used to promote malicious links to scam and phishing websites, so you should not trust its promotions. Unlike most adware that interacts with web browsers to present its ads, SideTab renders coupons right there on the lower-right part of the desktop. Currently, it is set to show two coupons, but this may change as the developers can alter the advertising campaign on the go.

Now, let us talk privacy because that is a big topic these days. Many applications that connect to the internet gather usage information to improve the user experience. Malware is no exception and the same goes for SideTab because it is also malicious. We believe that this program can interact with your browser and computer settings to obtain certain information. Therefore, it might gather information that includes but is not limited to your approximate geographical location, IP address, Internet Service Provider name, browsing history, search queries, browser type, operating system type, and so on. SideTab’s developers use this information to personalize the advertising campaign based on your browsing preferences.

Evidently, SideTab has nothing useful to offer to the end-user. We recommend that you uninstall it from your PC because it comes from unknown developers that can use it to promote questionable content. Some ads might prove to be fake and redirect you to scam websites and its information collection practices only make the problem worse because it increases the chances of the victim clicking a false advertisement. We have made a removal guide that you can find below. Still you should scan your computer for malware with an antimalware application.
