PocketRebates claims that with the application you will be able to shop online from your desktop, and even get part of your spent money back. Although it looks like a smart way to save some cash, you should learn more about the software first because its usage could bring you unexpected troubles. For starters, our researchers say that it is an adware application and the ads it displays could lead you to suspicious websites. Admittedly, not all advertisements come from unreliable sites, but there is such a chance, and the program does not seem to be worth to take this risk. For instance, these web pages could trick you into revealing your private information or they could promote potentially unwanted programs (PUP), adware applications or browser hijackers. To keep away from ads and other potentially harmful content, you should delete the program from your system. You can use our recommended removal steps that will be provided below the text.

After testing PocketRebates, our researchers came to the conclusion that the application is yet another adware that is very similar to Job Knows, Moneyzila, NewsCert, etc. Such software shares a very similar appearance and working manner. Many users get the idea that these programs will provide them with unique services, but after the installation, it becomes clear that its benefits were exaggerated. For instance, PocketRebates opens a separate window and loads some shopping website that suggests best refunds, coupons, and so on. Naturally, you would get the same result if you would load these sites in your browser, but it would be both ad and risk free, provided that the web page is reliable.

Furthermore, when you install the software, it will open a new Internet Explorer window and redirect you to a third-party website. In addition to that, it will occasionally do the same thing when you launch and use the program. You could notice suspicious ads on its official website too. As it is explained in the software’s Privacy Policy, the advertisements are provided by a third party and as you click on them they can redirect you to a particular site. In addition, the Privacy Policy reveals that “When you visit our site we may collect two types of information: (a) personal information you actively choose to disclose and (b) information about you that is collected automatically by our servers or obtained from third parties in a way not visible to you.” Meaning, that different data about you could be gathered either if you visit the program’s official site or enter a third-party website. The gathered information would depend on your interaction with the site and its reliability, e.g. it could be your name, email or IP address, location, etc. Your personal data should always be protected because if it falls into criminal hands, they could use it to scam you.

As we mentioned before, some of the ads could promote PUPs, browser hijackers or other adware that could bring you more ads or disturb your browsing. Nonetheless, the software’s installer might be bundled with these unwanted applications too, even if you download it from the official website. Therefore, if you want to remove PocketRebates, you should take care of the other similar programs that might have settled on your system. The easier option would be to install a legitimate antimalware tool, as it would scan your computer and erase the adware and other possible threats in a few minutes. The other option is manual deletion and you could try to remove the program this way with instructions available below the article. As for the other unwanted software that might be installed, you would have to identify it and delete it on your own. Since it might be difficult, it would be smarter to leave this task for the antimalware tool.
