Are you looking for a program that can help you use Netflix for free? If you are, you might end up letting in Netflix Ransomware. This is a malicious threat that conceals itself as a free account generator just to trick you into executing it without any realization. To fool you even further, this dangerous infection generates fictitious login details to make you think that it worked. Obviously, if you try to log into Netflix.com using these details, you will fail. Unfortunately, by the time you realize this, the ransomware might already have your personal files encrypted. Our research has revealed that this infection does not work very well. In fact, it is possible that once it is executed, your files will remain untouched. If the files get encrypted, you might end up losing them because, currently, paying the ransom and retrieving a decryptor is not possible. You can learn more about this and how to delete Netflix Ransomware by reading the report.

You already know that Netflix Ransomware is concealed as an account generator for Netflix. But how is this tool introduced to you? Of course, it might be promoted via bogus spam emails, and this is the method of distribution that is used by many ransomware infections. In fact, Jew Crypt Ransomware, Merry X-Mas Ransomware, and other recently reported threats are also primarily spread via corrupted spam emails. According to our research, there is another way that this threat can be promoted. Have you found a website promoting a Netflix account generator? Considering that such a tool is likely to be very desirable, it is very possible that the creator of the ransomware has set up multiple sites and installers promoting it. In any case, once the fake generator is executed, the ransomware works in the same manner. At the time of research, the threat did not encrypt files and did not accept payments, but we cannot guarantee that this is the version of the threat that you will face as well. Unfortunately, it is possible that Netflix Ransomware has successfully encrypted your personal files already.

Soon after execution, Netflix Ransomware should introduce you to the ransom demands. First, you might notice that the background wallpaper was modified without your permission. A .jpg file (might be named “ransom.jpg”) stored in the %USERPROFILE% is the image file that replaces your regular Desktop wallpaper, and the purpose of this file is to point you to the “Instructions.txt” file on the Desktop. This file represents the real ransom note, and, according to it, you have to visit http://108.61.173.155 and pay the ransom of $100 to obtain the decryption key. Should you trust this ransom note? That is up to you, but we have to warn you that cyber criminals are unpredictable. The creator of Netflix Ransomware could easily take your money (if the website worked and you paid the ransom), but fail to provide you with a working decryptor. Hopefully, your files are not encrypted at all, and you should check that before you do anything rash.

How are you going to remove Netflix Ransomware? If you choose the manual removal option (see below), you will also need to examine your operating system and, potentially, delete other existing threats. On top of that, you will need to figure out your operating system’s protection. If you decide to install anti-malware software, your PC will be cleaned automatically, and you will not need to worry about protection. We are sure there is no need to explain which one of these options we recommend. If you want to discuss these options further, we welcome all questions and all discussions in the comments section below. But what if your personal files are encrypted, and you do not know what to do? Hopefully, your files are backed up. If not, it is up to you whether or not you take the risk and pay the ransom (if that is made possible). If you end up losing your files, let this be a lesson that you need to take better care of your files and your operating system.
