Interpol Departament of Cybercrime Virus is yet another version of the Ukash ransomware. It infects target computer and then locks the desktop, displaying a worrying message that spreads all over the screen. It says:
Your PC is blocked due to at least one of the reasons specified below.
You have been violating <<Copyright and Related Right Law>> (Video, Music, Software) and illegally using or distributing copyrighted content, thus infringing Article 128 of the Criminal Code of World Department of Cybercrime.
Article 128 of the Criminal Code provides for a fine of 2 to 5 hundred minimal wages or a deprivation of liberty for 2 to 8 years.
Article 202 of the Criminal Code provides for a fine of up to €100,000/£100,000 and/or a deprivation of liberty for 4 to 9 years.
And so on and so forth. Users who are not keen on reading everything carefully might not notice an obvious spelling mistake in "Interpol Departament of Cybercrime". It is a glaring mistake that should help the users to tell this ransomware apart from genuine programs. Unfortunately, due to its aggressive nature Interpol Departament of Cybercrime Virus is successful in convincing users that it is the real deal and so they fall into the trap.
The main objective of Interpol Departament of Cybercrime Virus is to rip easy financial game. When it locks the user's desktop and displays the threatening message displayed above, it also says that if the user pays 100 euro or 100 pounds, the computer will be unlocked.
Naturally, it is a lie. Interpol Departament of Cybercrime Virus only needs the money, and the computer will never be freed of this infection. The user has to ignore Interpol Departament of Cybercrime Virus's demands and unlock the computer himself.
For that the user needs to restart his computer and then press F8 while the system boots. When the menu appears, choose Safe Mode with Networking. This mode is not affected by Interpol Departament of Cybercrime Virus. Also, when this mode loads the user can access the Internet and download a computer security program in order to remove Interpol Departament of Cybercrime Virus automatically. Of course, manual removal is also possible, but that is not a good idea unless you really know what you are doing.
