From the very outset it must be said that CostItApp is an adware-type application that you will want to remove after you finish reading this article. Like most adware applications, this particular one does nothing apart from displaying commercial ads. It might seem that this application is harmless and you might choose to ignore its presence, which is a bad idea. Therefore, we want to provide you with the most relevant information available to us at this time, so please continue reading if you are interested in knowing more.
CostItApp is based on the so-called JustPlugIt engine that has been created by a company of the same name. The company provides its clients with a platform to create and customize adware programs. We do not know to whom CostItApp actually belongs and if its ads can be trusted. But, given the company’s poor security track record, it is reasonable to think that this particular application might be unreliable as well. The way this application is disseminated is also left for the client himself to decide.
However, it appears that most of the company’s clients like to use the InstallRex, Amonetize, and Vittalia installers, which we suspect are a favorite of JustPlugIt. Since the dissemination method is determined by the clients themselves, this makes it very difficult for us to pinpoint the exact websites that host it. At least for now we do not know if CostItApp is distributed via a dedicated website, but most likely it is not, since to date none of JustPlugIt’s adware has been distributed in this manner. Software bundles are a favorite of adware developers, so free software sharing websites are where you will most likely encounter this application. However, you can also find it on piracy websites. In the case of piracy websites, CostItApp might be found bundled with malicious applications, such as adware, browser hijackers (especially from the Websearch family), and malicious toolbars.
So CostItApp is the kind of application that displays undesirable advertisements. Many users find ads annoying but usually do not know where they come from or how to remove them. The EULA found on Justplug.it reads “The Company's Software incorporates content and services provided by third parties, including links to external Websites not owned or controlled by the Company.” As you can see, the company has unleashed an application for which it is not responsible, so it is possible that third-party content is unreliable. There is no telling where you might get redirected and what you might find there. Since some of JustPlugIt’s clients are known to be unreliable, it is possible that CostItApp can promote malware downloads. However, for the most part, the ads are just annoying.
So, what can you learn from this article? Clearly, CostItApp is not useful. It does not improve, enhance, or benefit your browsing experience. It will, however, show you a lot of advertisements that will only hinder your browsing. There is just no way to determine whether the content it promotes is legitimate, so we recommend that you remove CostItApp as soon as possible. Remember to always download software from reliable sources and avoid freeware and (especially) piracy websites.
