Although CaptureItPlus is a legitimate program that offers authentic services, some people will regret installing it onto their computers. This open-source program was found to be infected with a malicious computer infection, and, if you download the PUP, this infection will be installed without your notice or permission. Unfortunately, because this threat is silent, some users will not understand being attacked by cyber criminals. To top it off, this malicious infection uses the name of a well known security tool, McAfee. This name is used to confuse users and to trick them into acting in a certain way. Would you follow the recommendations of your favorite security tool? Well, this is exactly how some users are likely to feel about this fake security tool. In this report, we show how to get rid of the malicious infection, as well as how to delete CaptureItPlus.

CaptureItPlus is a program that allows capturing screens, and it was created back in 2013. This program is available at captureitplus.codeplex.com, and codeplex.com hosts open-source software. Unfortunately, it was found that this potentially unwanted program (PUP) can be used for the distribution of a malicious infection capable of displaying misleading pop-up notifications. This is made possible by the files in the gltstech.net and PopupAlert folders, as well as the registry key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tree\. If you delete these files and eliminate the registry key, you should disable the misleading, irritating pop-ups for good. The problem is that some users will not even suspect the activity of malware when they see pop-ups urging them to remove Trojans or other malicious threats that supposedly have taken over their operating systems. Here is an example.

Your Computer is at High Risk
You have no updated Anti-virus on your computer. Don’t leave your computer defenseless against the latest threats. Get McAfee protection now.
Call Support
Toll Free: 1-800-245-2579

Although the pop-ups displayed by the malicious infection do not provide clickable links, it provides a number that you supposedly need to call in order to solve all security issues. This number does NOT represent the support you can trust. In fact, after doing some research, we found that this number might rush computer users to contact Windows support, and other reputable companies, which means that the same number is associated with different scams. Well, there are a few signs that should help you recognize a scam. First of all, if McAfee is not installed on your PC, the pop-ups showing up with its credentials must be fictitious. Secondly, the supposedly toll-free number is bogus, and you do not need research experience to figure this out. If you do not realize this and call the number, it is most likely that you will be provided with misleading information. You might even get tricked into installing unreliable software. Hopefully, you have not made the mistake of calling the number, but, if you have, act appropriately to protect yourself.

It is most likely that you will be able to use CaptureItPlus risk-free once you eliminate the components of the misleading pop-ups. Of course, we do not recommend taking any risks. Instead, we think you should delete all suspicious programs, and that includes removing CaptureItPlus. If you install automated malware removal software to eliminate malware – and this is the option we recommend – it is unlikely that this suspicious PUP will be erased from your computer. After all, it is not classified as a malicious threat. Nonetheless, if you wish to get rid of it, you can use the instructions below. Another thing you need to consider before you initiate the operation is the third-party malware. In case you have downloaded this PUP via a third-party installer, other apps might have slithered in along with it. If you discover these programs to be malicious, remove them ASAP.

Use the first step to eliminate the malicious pop-ups rushing to call the fake number. Then, if you want to, eliminate the potentially unwanted program using simple uninstall instructions.
