CalendarSpark is one of the newest extensions of Mindspark Interactive Network, Inc. The extension has been released recently, and it is still not very popular; however, it is already known that it is the most prevalent in such countries as India, Pakistan, Algeria, Indonesia, and Egypt these days. Computer users living in any of these aforementioned countries should be extremely careful on the web. Of course, users from the rest of the world cannot be sure that they will not encounter CalendarSpark too because the situation might change quickly, and this extension might become very popular in their region. The first symptom that this extension is installed is a different homepage, search engine, and a New Tab page. Yes, this search engine will apply changes to all the browsers, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. Unfortunately, the majority of users who install this extension willingly do not know that and thus believe that CalendarSpark is a browser hijacker after they notice the changes. We can confirm that this extension is not a hijacker; however, it does not mean that you should keep it installed. We will try to explain you why it is better to erase it.
Once CalendarSpark is installed on the system, users will immediately notice new extensions added. Google Chrome users can also notice a new folder aaehjjlljhmigellkdidoapcgkjblhoc (matches the Chrome Web Store ID) in C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions. In addition, homepages and search engines will be changed on browsers, and you will notice that the New Tab page settings are modified. Researchers at 411-spyware.com have tested that the modified version of the ask.com search engine will replace users’ homepages, search engines, and New Tab pages. The search engine itself is not bad; however, it has been observed that it might still present users with the modified search results. Generally speaking, these search results will be full of third-party ads and links that might redirect to third-party websites. You use the CalendarSpark extension on your own risk, so do not expect that this extension will care about your safety. What we want to say here is that nobody knows about the safety of these third-party web pages, and you might quickly infect your system with malicious software on them.
What is more, CalendarSpark is quite privacy-intrusive. For example, it asks permission to read and change data on all the websites a user visits, read and change browsing history, view calendar, and manage applications, downloads, and extensions. If you install the extension (willingly or unwillingly), it means that you agree with that and allow this extension to act in this manner. As you can see, the application is quite suspicious even though it claims to be a free online calendar that can help to plan events. You are the only one who can decide what to do with CalendarSpark. If you want to know our opinion, we believe that you should ONLY keep software that is 100% trustworthy.
Not all the users download and install the CalendarSpark from the Chrome Web Store or its official website (free.calendarspark.com/index.jhtml) themselves. Researchers at 411-spyware.com have revealed that this extension might also travel in software bundles together with other applications as well. If you tend to download many free programs from the web, you might download such a software “package” and install it on your computer. This might especially happen if you usually download software from third-party websites. Of course, there is a way to protect the system from future harm. You simply need to install a security tool on your computer. It is also advisable not to download software from third-party web pages ever again.
The CalendarSpark extension can be removed rather easily – all you need to do is to erase it from the Add-ons Manager. Instructions provided below will help you to do that. In case you have Internet Explorer installed too, you will also need to remove this extension from Control Panel. We know that there are users who do not know much about computers among us too. If you are one of them, you can scan your system with a trustworthy scanner, e.g. SpyHunter, and all the threats will disappear.
