BuiltMoneyMaker is advertised as something that will enable you to earn extra cash from your computer’s desktop. Now if you think that that is too good to be true, then you are absolutely right. This is an ad-supported application also referred to as adware, and as such, it has to be removed from your computer. Our research has revealed that this adware is quite intrusive and irritating. However, there is more to it. We have found that this annoying program might get your computer infected with more malware since its promotions come from sources of unverifiable legitimacy. It is plain to see that this program’s developers are in the business of web monetization, and thus, have little regard for your computer’s security. In short, they might advertise anything as long as the pay is good.

Over the past few weeks, we have analyzed many programs similar to BuiltMoneyMaker. The list of similar programs includes Diet Bright, MultiSurveys, BabyMegs, and other adware. All of these programs seem to have been developed by the same software company or unofficial group of programmers. Unfortunately, we do not know the name of this entity because its name is not provided within the software or on the websites that distribute the software and, therefore, we assume that that is done on purpose so that this program’s developers could avoid responsibility and possible legal problems.

Even the manner in which BuiltMoneyMaker is disseminated is dishonest and barely legitimate. While researching this adware we found that it is being promoted via browser hijackers that inject links to Builtmoneymaker.com (this program's promotional and distribution website) into their search results. In addition to that, this adware is also bundled with other malicious programs and put up for download on various shady sites, particularly those that host downloads of pirated software. In such cases, this program along with other malware might be installed on your computer using a malicious installer that initiates automatically and cannot be canceled. Note that even the version on Builtmoneymaker.com comes bundled with malware by default, so the only difference here is that BuiltMoneyMaker is the main program — not a secretive additional app.

As an ad-supported application, BuiltMoneyMaker is very good at nagging you with unwelcome ads. What sets this program and its counterparts apart from thousands of other adware-type programs is its distinct ad-displaying window that is launched automatically to load a promoted webpage. Initially, this window loads Builtmoneymaker.com/redir.php, that redirects to promoted websites, such as Savings-galleria.com and Premiumpromorewards.com. However, the ads vary depending on the region. In addition to the dedicated ad-displaying window, this adware will also force open Internet Explorer and load different advertisements such as Savings-galleria.com/?agent_ID=202081&campaign_ID=6389.

As you can see, there are many variables involved, so there is no way to determine when this application will start promoting malicious content, but based on our experience with its predecessors, we believe that it is entirely possible that it can do so further down the line. We recommend that you remove BuiltMoneyMaker because it might get your computer infected with more malicious applications if you accidentally click one of its advertisements.

In addition to displaying ads via its dedicated adverting window and Internet Explorer, this malware will also collect some non-personally identifiable information about you to tailor the ads according to your browsing preferences and demographic information. The collected information can include your IP address, device information, programs installed, approximate geographical location, and so on. Again, this information is on non-personal nature, but given what it is used for you might want to share it.

All in all, BuiltMoneyMaker is an ad-supported program that will make money for its developers, but not for you. Its promotional website lies when it claims that it can help you make extra money — it cannot and the sooner you get rid of it, the better. Our researchers are of the opinion that that this program’s promotions can get your PC infected with additional malware. As a result, your computer can become slower, start showing errors and even crash. So, that being said, do not hesitate to remove this program.
