Have you recently installed Br Media Player but you cannot seem to make it work? Well, there is a reason for that. The application is not a media player, but is just disguised as one. Therefore, our researchers have classified it as a potentially unwanted program that you might want to remove, because it will not benefit your computing experience in any way. It is much more likely that the application will do the opposite. If you want to know what it does, we recommend that you read this article and come to your own conclusion as to whether you need to get rid of it or not.

Br Media Player is just a name. The application does not play or convert video files, as some of you may have been lead to believe. In fact, the player does not even have a graphical user interface; it is just non-existent. The developers have purposely made the application to pose as a media player, so that it appeals to more people. But what does Br Media Player actually do? When installed, the application autostarts with Windows and it is likely to start displaying bogus warnings and offers to update your PC’s drivers, remove malware, and update your browser or Flash player. We do not recommend that you click on any such offers, because they might get your computer infected with malicious software that you would have to remove using an anti-malware scanner.

Brmediaplayer.com is the name of the website which acts as the server for Br Media Player. This website contains various links to third-party websites. In addition to that, the website has a search function, which redirects all searches to various search engines and websites. The website’s privacy policy indicates that Br Media Player is associated with Network Advertising Initiative, a company that “is the leading self-regulatory association dedicated to responsible data collection and its use for digital advertising.” However, we deem Brmediaplayer.com unreliable, because it is not clear to whom it belongs.

One last thing to mention is the fact that Br Media Player has been designed to collect information about your browsing preferences. Therefore, third-parties can get hold of your browsing and search history. It is likely that this information is used for marketing purposes, such as customizing search results on their website or sharing it with third-parties. In any case, we think that such behavior is unacceptable. But whether you want to delete it or not is completely up to you.

To our knowledge, Br Media Player is distributed using software bundling, since the application is not featured on its website. Also, we have no information about its being distributed on any website as a standalone application. Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude that this player must be bundled with legitimate applications and slips into a computer, because most users fail to check free software installers for additional payload.

As you can see, Br Media Player is no media player. It does not play or convert files. All it does is display unreliable warnings and offers that might redirect you to unreliable websites that can contain malicious downloads. In addition to that, the application collects non-personally identifiable information, but we do not know the true purpose for that. So, Br Media Player is not malicious on its own but you can remove it because it is not a media player.
