We want to inform you that the program known as AdSkip is highly unreliable and you should remove it as soon as the opportunity arises because it was classified as a potentially unwanted program (PUP.) It is deceptively promoted as an ad blocker, a type of software that is very useful these days when the online advertising business is booming. We have tested this application and found that it does not block much of the advertisements. Even worse, it can secretly drop malicious software on your computer. The type of malware this app can subject you to includes adware, browser hijackers, and so on. However, it is possible for it to drop Trojan-type malware as well. Therefore, your computer’s security can become compromised, and you have to get rid of this application to cut this stream of malware.

Ironically, this program’s developers have stated on its website at Adskiper.com that “Adskip is a free ad blocker that allows you to - among other things - block annoying ads and domains known to spread malware.” So is this program an anti-malware tool? Definitely not, but its developers make outrageous claims about blocking known malicious domains and ads. This application was not designed to perform this function because its real purpose is not to block, but to distribute malware.

One thing that is indicative of this program’s questionable nature is the absence of information regarding its origins which leads us to believe that it was released by a shady entity that wants to remain unknown. Judging from the structure, we think that this program belongs to Elex-tech or one of its many partners. This company is known for developing shady applications that tend to install malware. This application has a dedicated promotional website at Adskiper.com from which you can download it. However, this is not the only dissemination channel as we have found that it gets dropped by Trojans that exploit vulnerabilities in your system. Therefore, you should protect your PC with an anti-malware program because you cannot prevent a Trojan from infecting your system if you do not have such a program.

You may be surprised to learn that this application is not legitimate given how neat and clean its Graphical User Interface (GUI) is. Elex-tech software is known to appear as reliable while in reality not being such. Testing has shown that this program does not filter the ads most of the time. It has the ability to allow you to enter custom URLs to block manually, but that also does not work in most cases. Therefore, we conclude that this application is next to useless and will not deliver you the functions you expect.

Extensive research has shown that a month after installing it, AdSkip will start to download various malicious applications on your computer. We have found that it does that secretly, and we think that it is a service that malware developers can pay for to increase their user base. Indeed, AdSkip’s developers are probably paid to distribute malware, so this application is untrustworthy. We assume that this application can get your PC infected with adware, browser hijackers, spyware, and perhaps install other potentially unwanted programs. We assume this to be the case because the content that it drops is subject to change and it might not drop any malware at some point.

Given that this application’s declared feature barely works, and given that it can secretly install malware on your system, we think that classifying it as a potentially unwanted program was entirely justified. Therefore, we recommend that you delete AdSkip as soon as possible to restore your computer’s security. Furthermore, we suggest that you scan it with an antimalware application to ensure that this application has not dropped any malware in case you have had it for some time.
