TechAgent is promoted as a beneficial application that works as “your own personal technician” that is “waiting to assist you in any PC matter, 24/7.” Judging from the information found on the official website of TechAgent, which is techagent.co, this program should work as a technical support tool and thus provide the assistance needed. Unfortunately, even though this program promises to act in a useful way, we cannot recommend users to download and install it on their computers because it is known to be a potentially unwanted program. Of course, specialists have decided to put it into this category not without a reason. First of all, not all the users who have TechAgent installed on their computers have downloaded it themselves, which suggests that it might enter the system using alternative ways. Secondly, it makes several modifications to be able to start whenever it wants to. Finally, we cannot say that TechAgent is a very beneficial application. It will not do anything if you do not dial the provided number. Of course, we cannot guarantee that the technicians working there will solve problems for you as well if you still decide to make a call.

If you really install TechAgent on your computer, you will see a new pop-up window in the bottom-right corner of your Desktop. You will see a similar text (see below) there:

TechAgent

Your Certified PC Expert

is waiting to assist you in all your PC matters.

8554815344

Call now and your personal IT Specialist will resolve all PC issues such as network connections, software installation, printers and much more.

You should know that it is quite risky to dial the provided telephone number because you cannot be sure that it is not a premium-rate number. Also, the service they offer might not be free at all. If you still decide to dial the number, be cautious because they might try to convince you to purchase the application you do not even need. Of course, it will not be cheap. Our security specialists also do not think that it is a very good idea to provide the personal information they might require. It is because nobody can assure you that it will eventually not end up in the hands of untrustworthy companies or individual people.

To be able to show the window on your Desktop, TechAgent creates several new registry keys upon installation. In addition, it adds its folder TechAgent in %PROGRAMFILES%, %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs, and other places. You will even find its shortcut on Desktop. What is more, it has been revealed that this application creates two tasks in %WINDIR%\System32\Tasks and %WINDIR%\Tasks. It creates one task there to be able to start with the Windows OS. The other one is necessary for it so that it could start every 6 hours automatically. Unfortunately, this also means that it will launch again even though you close it. Fully reliable programs do not usually act like this, but if they do, these changes can be easily altered. Unfortunately, you will not be allowed to change the settings of TechAgent. This is one of those reasons why specialists classify it as a potentially unwanted program.

TechAgent is said to be a PUP also because it seems to be able to enter computers in software bundles. This explains why users who do not download and install this program willingly have it installed on their systems. It has been found that the majority of people who find TechAgent installed on their computers and cannot remember doing that are users who tend to download all kinds of applications from file-sharing, torrent, and similar third-party websites. It might sometimes be really hard to notice that additional undesirable programs are going to be installed on the computer and cancel the installation process, so we highly recommend installing a security tool that will do this job for you.

Even though TechAgent creates several new registry keys in the system registry and puts its folders to different places, it should not be hard for you to delete it because it has an uninstall entry in Control Panel. If that does not say much to you, you should use our manual removal instructions (see below) or just go for the automatic removal of this potentially unwanted application.
