We would like to inform you about a newly found application known as Aerojet. We tested it and came to the conclusion that it is a potentially unwanted program (PUP.) So, it is not malicious per se, but it can show promotional links from shady sources, modify your browser’s settings, and collect information about you. Therefore, we think that labeling it as a PUP is entirely justifiable because it can pose a significant risk to your computer’s security and should be removed. Moreover, it will not provide you with any useful services that could improve your browsing. All we know is that its developers promise vague Internet browsing improvements that amount to content modification which is undesirable.
One thing that initially made us question this program’s legitimacy was that fact that its website at Aerojet.com does not have any information regarding the company that made and owns this application. Hence, we do not know whether it was made by a legitimate software developer that would take responsibility for what this program does. We believe that the website does not feature the company name on purpose to avoid responsibility as this program is claimed to provide its users with better websites, but does nothing of the sort and it could not even if its developers wanted it to do this.
Even though it is promoted on Aerojet.com, you cannot get it from this site because it does not host its download. We find this rather odd, and it does not look like this website gets many visitors. However, we have received information suggesting that this PUP is disseminated on the web via malicious software installers that are configured to install Aerojet without your knowledge or consent. However, some installers might allow you to deselect its installation, so do not forget to select advanced installation settings whenever you install an application and deselect all unwanted software because otherwise, you might get programs such as Aerojet.
Now, let us take a look at how this application works and how is it a threat to your computer’s security. Its website claims that this application is safe and will show you better pages while you browse the web. However, this vague explanation makes sense when you look at this program’s EULA that states "We may make available significant amounts of third-party content, including links to other websites, articles, forums, ads and offers, and other multi-media content." So this application promotes third-party content, and we found that it will open new tabs that show advertisements while you are browsing the web. We have also received information saying that it promotes tech support scams and other adware. However, there is even more to it. The EULA also says that this program’s other features include resetting your web browser’s homepage and/or new tab page. Hence, it has a browser hijacking feature, but it did not replace the homepage address when testing it. Testing has shown that this program is configured to disable User Account Control (UAC.)
Given the undesirable functionality of Aerojet, we recommend that you get rid of it. However, we want to point out that it comes as both an executable program and browser extension from Chrome and Internet Explorer. However, we found that it is set to leave many junk files behind after you uninstall it via Control Panel and remove it from your browser’s list of extensions. Furthermore, you should also delete the registry keys and CLSID’s that the installer also leaves behind.
In conclusion, everything about Aerojet says that it is a useless piece of programming whose real purpose is to make money for its developers by subjecting to promotional links. The problem is that those links are annoying and intrusive and come from unknown sources. Also, this program itself is set to enter your computer via clandestine means and leaves junk files when you run its uninstaller. So we invite you to make use of our featured removal guide.
