Gplyra Miner is a potentially unwanted program that can get on your computer without your knowledge. It is not a malicious application, but it is set to secretly use your PC for mining digital currencies. So you should remove it because it will use a lot of your computer’s resources and make it work slower as a result. This application will not benefit you in any shape or form, just degrade your PC’s performance and cause frustration. Programs such as this one are rare because cyber crooks rarely use infected computers to mine digital currencies. However, with a large number of infected computers doing the work, this scheme becomes very profitable.

We have received reports saying that Gplyra Miner is distributed via software bundles. As of yet we do not know the exact names of the websites on which these software bundles are uploaded, but rest assured that these sites distribute freeware after bundling it with third-party applications such as Gplyra Miner. The owners of such websites get a commission for each installed bundle, so there is a financial initiative to distribute this application. Furthermore, it might slip onto your PC unnoticed because the bundles hide it from plain sight. However, you might be able to remove this program from the installation setup by selecting advanced installation settings and unchecking its perspective checkbox. Now that we know how it is disseminated let us have a look at how it works because its functions are the most important issues concerning this program.

When this program enters a computer, it redirects resources to mine digital currencies that utilize the CryptoNight hashing algorithm. This application’s executable is dropped in %APPDATA%\cpuminer. Its folder contains just the executable named CPM.exe, which is configured to autostart on system boot up. Once this program starts, it reads the configuration file named cpuminer-conf.json which contains the settings required to mine digital currencies. Currently, this application is set to redirect 30 % of your computer’s power to perform its activity, and it uses this 30 % as long as your PC is powered on. Furthermore, it will connect to a mining pool based at poolminers.net with the username miner.

Since this application uses 30 % of your PC’s processing power, it can cause you serious problems. It will make your PC perform much slower than normal, and when the processor is under constant load it will generate more heat which can result in system failure once the CPU temperature rises beyond acceptable levels. However, this is subject to many factors, and if your PC is well ventilated, then you will not experience heat-related issues. Of course, this application will also contribute to higher electricity bills. So, this application is a drain on your computer’s processing power and your wallet while generating excess heat. However, it will make a healthy profit for its developers.
