Do you often forget to update your programs and applications? Do you think of using WebUpdater to do this job for you? If the answer is yes, then perhaps you should think of another option because this application is considered a potentially unwanted program. A potentially unwanted program is a type of software that is not malicious, but it may have some features that could prove to be unwanted, suspicious or even harmful. Therefore, if you do not want to deal with any potential security issues, it would be for the best to remove WebUpdater from your computer right now.

When we open the program’s homepage via getwebupdater.com, we are greeted with a simple design and a user-friendly information layout. The main tagline says that you can “keep your software updated the easy way!” It then goes on to say that WebUpdater is “the cleanest, lightest way to keep your PC secure, up to date and running smoothly! You’ll be notified when your apps need updating; the latest versions are just a click away!” Technically, this does not sound too bad. The program offers to keep an eye on your apps for you. After all, keeping your programs updated is one of the ways to avoid severe malware infections.

However, the question is whether you really have to make use of a third-party application to update all of your programs. After all, a decent program comes with an automatic update function, which is usually part of the default settings. It is far more often that users toggle settings to avoid updating programs rather than turn the automatic update service on. So it would be better to rely on the built-in settings to update your programs, instead of relying on a third-party application to do that.

Why are we so doubtful about using a third-party app to do that? The problem is that freeware applications usually communicate and work with other freeware applications, and this is where the matters can go out of hand. There is no way to monitor the third-party partners of any freeware app, and you can never know what kind of content you might be exposed to through WebUpdater. What’s more, during our tests, we have found that while this program looks for new versions of your software, it may also offer to install adware and even malware. This happens because the application offers to update all your programs via bundled downloads, and we all know that bundled downloads are one of the fastest ways to a system downfall.

To put it simply, it is not safe to download system updates via WebUpdater because you can never know what kind of additional programs you may install. In the worst case scenario, you could end up fighting against severe computer threats, like Trojans, ransomware applications, worms, and so on. If you think that you may already have some nasty stuff on-board, scan your computer right now with a security tool you trust, and then remove all the unwanted apps immediately.

To terminate WebUpdater, open Control Panel and uninstall the application from the list of installed programs. If you encounter any difficulties trying to protect your PC from harm, be sure to let us know by leaving a comment below. We are always ready to help you!
