While most of the browser hijackers affect all the major browsers in the market, there are also programs that infect only one browser. For example, this is what Multi-search.org does. This browser hijacker seems to target computer users in Russia and other Russian-speaking countries, having in mind that it usually redirects users to Russian websites. Nevertheless, you cannot be sure that this infection does not affect your Internet Explorer web browser, no matter what your current location might be. If you happen you have been infected by this hijacker, you should remove Multi-search.org at once and then acquire a legitimate antispyware application to protect your PC from similar infections.

The disturbing thing about such browser hijackers is that they seldom come alone. That is to say, if your default homepage was changed to Multi-search.org on Internet Explorer, then there is a good chance that there are many other dangerous programs running on your system. Direct distribution is out of the question because that is not how such programs travel around. According to our research, Multi-search.org spreads bundled with malicious installers. Third-party installers that contain the installer file for this hijacker are often available at file-sharing websites. Sometimes users may download them willingly, thinking they are downloading some program they have been looking for. Sometimes a bunch of unwanted programs might appear on your system accidentally when you click a fake download button or a random pop-up.

The point is, most of the time, it would be possible to avoid getting infected with Multi-search.org if you were careful about the websites you visit and the programs you install. Naturally, we cannot expect all the users to exercise caution and be well-versed in computer security, but if you access a page that generates a pop-up window after a pop-up window, that should be enough to ring the alert in your head.

Although Multi-search.org only modifies Internet Explorer settings, the hijacker is intrusive enough to be taken seriously. For instance, with the infection on your browser, you will be constantly redirected to such unreliable websites as group.aliexpress.com, kingstars.ru, loading-it.com, apytrc.com, and so on. At first it might seem that the sites are related to your likes and preferences because most of them are online shopping sites and gaming pages. However, Multi-search.org is able to redirect you to such sites because it monitors your online activity and it knows what you usually search for.

That is not too shocking because cookies are employed by most of the websites and search engines, but when this tactic is used by a browser hijacker, you can never know what the results could be. Multi-search.org does that in order to make money for its creators, but the program is not responsible for the third-party content you encounter when it reroutes you to an affiliated website. Thus, the hijacker is actually a perfect tool for malware distribution, and if it falls into the wrong hands, you could end up getting infected with Trojans, ransomware, rogue antispyware, and many other dangerous programs.
