DownloadHunter is supposed to be a file download manager; however, we have found that this is simple ad-supported program that may put your virtual security at risk by exposing you to potentially unreliable third-party commercial ads. While most people are annoyed by pop-up and other types of advertisements, not all of them take this infection seriously enough and leave it active. We certainly advise you to remove DownloadHunter as soon as possible because nothing else will stop the ads and the exposure. As a matter of fact, this adware may not even be the only problem right now since these programs rarely travel alone. If you want to learn more about these potential threats and how you can protect your computer from them, please continue reading.
DownloadHunter is a semi-random name adware application based on the JustPlugIt platform. It is called semi-random because it is capable of changing the letters and capitalization in its name and show up in the list of installed programs with a variation of DownloadHunter every time it is installed. So, if you find, for example, dDowWnlloadHHunTteEr in your Control Panel you need to know that it is the same adware that you need to eliminate. This adware program has an official website at downloadhunter.info, but when you click on the Download button, something suspicious happens. You will find yourself on a red warning page that says: “The site ahead contains harmful programs”; at least that may happen if your browser is up-to-date.
But it is more likely that you have never seen or visited this website and still have this infection on-board. We have noticed that DownloadHunter is mostly distributed in third-party installers, such as InstallRex. These installers, however, can contain several malware programs, which means that by now your computer may be swarming with a couple of potentially dangerous threats. Deleting DownloadHunter will not be sufficient in that case. Until you remove all infections, you cannot consider your computer safe to use.
Although this application poses as a useful download manager, it is more likely that it will not function in this capacity, but, instead, it will start displaying banner ads, pop-up ads, and best offers. If you want to protect your computer, do not ever click on these third-party ads. Keep in mind that even criminals can be behind ads and their aim is to scam you through their dedicated websites, which you may land on if you click on an infected ad. It would be rather unfortunate because these schemers are very talented in fooling people. If you do not want to experience this, you should delete DownloadHunter right away.
Since this adware application uses browser extensions to show the ads and its uninstaller only takes care of Internet Explorer in this regard, it is not enough to remove DownloadHunter via Control Panel. You also need to delete the extensions in Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome as well. If you are not confident enough regarding the necessary steps, please follow our instructions below.
