Workno.ru Removal Guide

According to the research we have carried out in our lab, Workno.ru is a browser hijacker that mostly affects users in the Russian-speaking countries. That is not hard to understand from the domain address. However, it does not mean that this infection cannot slither into your computer, too. Malware does not recognize national borders, and there is no such thing on the Internet, so you have to be extra careful when you surf unfamiliar web pages. When you have this infection on your computer, the next time you open your browser, it will automatically open Workno.ru. The site looks like a mish-mash between a search engine and a news website. For starters, it offers you a big search box at the top of the page, which, in turn, is adorned with a big advertisement right above it. We find another advertisement below the search box, as well as the latest headlines in the Russian languages. The headlines look like they have been supplied by a tabloid, as they are flashier than informative.

As far as the associations are concerned, Workno.ru is thought to be related to Smartinf.ru, Funday24.ru, Time-to-read.ru, and other similar websites. It means that the people who have created this browser hijacker have been in the business for quite some time now, and they try to spread their products through various distribution vectors. Most of these programs spread around through the Russian file sharing websites, and they can also be dropped by various Trojans that have been created specifically for the Russian market. In other words, it is possible to get infected with the hijacker if you do not employ safe web browsing tactics.

Once the infection takes place, Workno.ru adds an auto-run registry entry to open the website automatically the moment you turn on your computer. Therefore, you can already imagine that this program is more than just annoying because it opens your browser whether you like it or not. What’s more, this hijacker does not install itself as Workno.ru. Instead, it uses many of the other websites that redirect you to it. For example, you may encounter iztiwe.ru or dcubege.ru, and there might be many more of those.

Since this browser hijacker does not have an entry in the list of installed programs, it is not possible to remove it via Control Panel. However, you can still get rid of Workno.ru by deleting its registry entries and resetting your browser settings. If you have any password you do not remember by heart, now is the time to jot it down somewhere because resetting the browser will delete all of your personal settings, including bookmarks, favorites, saved passwords, and so on.

However, that is definitely something you have to do if you want to avoid exposure to corrupted and harmful content. If you fail to delete this infection from your computer, it is only a matter of time until you will be redirected to some dangerous website, and you get infected with a ransomware Trojan or something even worse. Thus, do yourself a favor and nip the problem in the bud.

How to Remove Workno.ru

1. Press Win+R and the Run prompt will open.
2. Type regedit and click OK.
3. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
4. Find a random-name value with the following value data:
   explorer \http://iztiwe.ru*
5. Right-click the value and Delete it.
6. Exit the Registry Editor and delete the Вoйти в Интeрнет.lnk from your desktop.

Google Chrome

1. Press Alt+F and click Settings.
2. Scroll down to the bottom and click Show advanced settings.
3. Scroll down again and click Reset settings.
4. Press Reset to confirm.

Internet Explorer

1. Press Alt+T and click Internet options.
2. Open the Advanced tab and click Reset.
3. Select Delete personal settings and click Reset.
4. Press Close.

Mozilla Firefox

1. Press Alt+H and click Troubleshooting information.
2. Click Refresh Firefox at the top right of the new tab.
3. Click Refresh Firefox again and click Finish.
