WizzAppChecker

Category: Adware

WizzAppChecker, similarly to WizzScreenMode, is a questionable program developed by Wizzlabs. Although this software is supposed to notify you whenever a suspicious or malicious program is run or created in your system, we have found that this tool is quite unreliable, not to mention the fact that it may start popping up annoying and potentially unsafe third-party ads as well. Apart from making your computer run slower, this ad-supported program may also pose a threat to your privacy and your system security. ...

SecuriDex

Category: Computer Help

It is high time we discuss a recently released yet undesirable media player called SecuriDex. We have classified it as a potentially unwanted program because its developers use dishonest marketing methods to advance their selfish agenda. Therefore, we believe that you should remove this program as soon as the opportunity arises because failure to do so may result in undesirable consequences. It is not considered a malicious program, but one of its purposes is to display fictitious errors and infection warnings, then offer you to call fake tech support. The promoted tech support number may be premium toll, so it could cost you a pretty penny.

We have received information that this application first appeared on 9 March 2016, so it is relatively new. It was developed by a company known as SecuriDex LLC, but we are of the opinion that this name is not real because there is no information about this company anywhere on the web. We think that this company name is just a front for its true developers that want to remain in the shadows. This practice is becoming more and more common among malware developers.

While conducting our research, we have found that this program is currently being distributed on its dedicated download website at Securidex.com. This site claims that this application is a reliable and safe media player that is compatible with all Windows devices including tablets and phones. However, we have found most of the claims on this website to be fake, but more on that later. Another method used to disseminate this PUP is a website called Software.informer.com. This site is expected to feature all kinds of shady software. While researching potentially unwanted programs, this particular website is bound to come up, so you have to be cautious when you browse on it for software.

Now let us get to the most important part of this description which is this program’s functions. As a media player SecuriDex works rather well, but do not expect it to play 4K. Furthermore, we only know of the version for PC while the tablet and phone versions remain elusive. We were not that impressed with its video-playing capabilities and thought that this function acts as a front for something more sinister. Further research has revealed that this player has the ability to render fake errors and warnings about malware. It might display these errors in a drop-down window, or it might present a pop-up. Whatever the case may be, make sure not to fall for its tricks because these messages are set to scare and compel you to dial a premium toll number to contact tech support. There is no way of knowing whether someone will actually answer the phone, but if someone does, we doubt that you will receive genuine support. We are of the opinion that this media player’s purpose is to extort your hard-earned cash.

Thankfully, at present, SecuriDex’s error-displaying function does not work, probably because its main server is down. However, the server can go back up at any time, and this program will perform to its full potential. Nevertheless, it can play videos regardless of whether its server is up or down, but do not get your hopes up. As a media player, SecuriDex does a pretty lousy job because it is limited in the formats it can play. It looks like a cheap rip-off of Windows Media Player Classic, so we do not recommend using SecuriDex as your main player. Moreover, we suggest that you delete it from your computer to avoid those fake messages and warnings.

Since SecuriDex is not a malicious program you can keep it if you so desire, but keep in mind that you will continue to get those annoying fake warnings. So we suggest that you get another media player and remove SecuriDex. Please follow the instructions we have provided below to get rid of this app.

Bargains

Bargains is a piece of software that advertises itself as a light-weight browser extension. Even though Bargains is published quite recently, it is already very prevalent on the web these days. It is not very surprising because this application is, evidently, targeted at a wide range of people because it works on all the newer versions of Windows OS, starting from Windows 2000, as well as Mac OS X, Linux, and Chrome OS. ...

QuizScope

Category: Adware

The name of QuizScope should signal you that this program is not transparent.
