How Did You Get System Security version 4.51?
Wondering how System Security version 4.51 ended up on your PC? If you’re infected with System Security version 4.51 or other badware, perhaps you were using…
- Freeware or shareware: Did you download and install shareware or freeware? These low-cost or free software applications may come bundled with spyware, adware, or programs like System Security version 4.51. Sometimes adware is attached to the free software to “pay” developers for the cost of creating the software, and more often spyware is secretly attached to free software to harm your computer and steal your personal and financial information.
- Peer-to-peer software: Do you use a peer-to-peer (P2P) program or other application with a shared network? When you use these applications, you put your system at risk for unknowingly downloading an infected file, including applications like System Security version 4.51.
- Questionable websites: Did you visit a website that’s of questionable nature? When you visit malicious sites that are fishy and phishy, badware may be automatically downloaded and installed onto your computer, sometimes including applications like System Security version 4.51. I recommend you use Firefox web browser, if you don’t already.
Understanding System Security version 4.51
If you’re infected with System Security version 4.51, you should know what you’re fighting. I’ll explain some definitions related to System Security version 4.51.
System Security version 4.51 May Be Rogue Anti-Spyware
Rogue anti-spyware refers to anti-spyware/antivirus software of questionable value. Rogue anti-spyware may not be proven to protect your computer from spyware, may popup fake alerts or create many false positives about your PC being infected, or may use scare tactics to try to get you to purchase the application. Rogue anti-spyware software may be installed by a Trojan, come bundled with other software, or install itself through web browser security holes. While it is fairly rare, some rogue anti-spyware is created and distributed by known spyware or adware companies, and the rogue anti-spyware may install spyware or adware itself.
Often when you’re infected with rogue anti-spyware like System Security version 4.51, you’ll see a false popup security alert like this:

Rogue Anti-Spyware Tactics
Typically, rogue anti-spyware such as System Security version 4.51 has one or more of the qualities listed below, which is why rogue anti-spyware is considered anti-spyware software of questionable value.
- False positives/fake alerts: Rogue anti-spyware may produce a large number of false positives or use fake alerts, noting that your computer is infected with spyware parasites or other threats that do not really exist.
- Copycat looks: Rogue anti-spyware may copy the look and feel of other legitimate or rogue anti-spyware applications. Often, rogue anti-spyware applications may appear as close clones of other rogue anti-spyware software.
- High pressure marketing: Rogue anti-spyware may use scare tactics or other aggressive advertising and marketing tactics to try to trick you into buying the rogue anti-spyware application. Often, rogue anti-spyware may produce false positives and fake alerts about your computer being infected.
- Poor detection/scan reporting: Rogue anti-spyware may produce poor reports when it scans your PC. For example, rogue anti-spyware may say your computer is infected 11 parasites, but not specify which spyware parasites or what type of parasites. Rogue anti-spyware may also report that your PC is infected with SafeAndClean, but not tell you which related files, DLLS, etc. were found on your computer.
- Weak scanning/detection: Rogue anti-spyware may not only poorly report on computer infection, but rogue antispyware may also poorly scan your PC. Rogue anti-spyware may skip over important folders and files of your computer that should be scanned to detect spyware.
Did System Security version 4.51 use these tactics to trick you into buying System Security version 4.51?
System Security version 4.51 May Be a Trojan
Trojans install themselves secretly onto your computer, most often through your downloading a simple email attachment (often Trojans pose as harmless pictures). Most Trojans are able to gain complete control over your PC after installation. With this control, the Trojan and the hacker behind it may change your system settings, delete important files, steal your passwords, and watch your computer acitivity.
Infection Methods of System Security version 4.51 and Other Trojans
Most Trojans infect your computer by tricking you into launching an infected file. This poisoned file could disguised as a small file, such as a jpeg or other email attachment, or it might be downloaded via a website or FTP.
- Email: Your PC may be infected with a Trojan when you download infected email attachments, or sometimes even when you simply open an email. Many Trojans exploit security holes in Microsoft Outlook. You may be able to reduce your chances of getting infected by a Trojan by using a spam-blocking software.
- Websites: Your PC may be infected with a Trojan when you visit a rogue site. Many Trojans exploit security holes in Internet Explorer web browser so that by simply visiting a website you may unknowingly download a Trojan.
- Open ports: If your computer runs programs that provide file-sharing functions – such as AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), MSN Messenger, and more – you may open your computer up to vulnerabilities. Using file sharing through these applications may create a network that gives attackers the opportunity to remotely access your computer.

yo smurf if you still check this your plan failed….it didnt work on my computer did you do anything else you didnt mention?
I used rui’s location and while it was running I couldn’t delete the file, but I could change the .exe to .jpg, screwing up the file. Then I restated and deleded it. Thanks alot :D
Susan…..
Follow Smurfies advice …..
“2. Restart ur computer…when u restart…keep hitting F8 until u get the safe mode menu.
3. once on safe mode menu, arrow up or down to Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows Domain Controllers Only) and hit enter.
”
Once you see your desktop, open internet explorer and go to Malwarebytes.org to and download it….click save to desktop. Once it is done, click RUN….follow the install instructions, then run the quick scan.
This worked for my friend….I talked her thru it on the phone.
Thanks Smurfie!!!
I didn’t have this on my computer, but my friend did and after 2 days of trying to get it off with the removal tool with no success, I found Smurfies instructions. We followed them with on one change…..when she downloaded Malwarebytes it didn’t save to her computer, so while in safe mode she downloaded it again and saved it…..then she ran the scan and rebooted……it worked. She is now System Security v4.51 FREE!!!!
Thanks So Much Smurfie!!
Smurfie…..I can not open the internet so How do I download Malwarebytes ??
Thanks,
Susan
I can not open the internet….how am i suppose to go to http://www.Malwarebytes.org ??
Please help !!
smurfie……..you’re a genius!! Thanks for getting ss 4.51 my computer – everyone…..listen to smurfie june 16
i downloaded the program from www.Malwarebytes.org and saved it on a SD card on my lap top. once i started my desktop in safemode i opened the program and ran it. it found 112 threats once it removed thoes and i restarted the program was gone and everything seems to be working fine now.
What Tara said works. If you can open your computer in directory services restore mode you do not have create the shortcut. 4.51 is one of the things that does not function in that mode unless you open it.
Just search exe. and there the icons are
under the date of infection. Just delete the icons.
Thanks Tara
TAKE OF SYSTEM SECURITY VERSION 4.51. I CANT GET INTO ANYTHING ARE DOWNLOAD ANYTHING SUTCH AS JAVA.COM. PLEASE REMOVE IT I DO NOT WANT IT . I HAVE INSTALLED THE SPYWARE DR. THANK YOU CAROL ZUEHLKE. I CANT EVEN PUT MY AOL9.0 ON.
did u already get off of security system
if yes send me a mail i got that too and i want to remove but i can t :S
the files are in c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\
in my case there were two folders in the directory above named 91735346 and 11725354 (in your case they may be different). In each of those folders you’ll find an .exe file. Just delete them and your system will run fine again.
To delete them you must boot directly to DOS cause the application won’t let you delete from Windows.
After that just follow the instructions in this site to get rid of the rest of the files of system security 4.51.
Hope I could help. Take care
UR so welcome Gary!!!! I know this will work for everyone if the FOLLOWS THE STEPS!!!!
Nicki…I am aware that u can’t down load anything…but u CAN save Malwarebytes to ur desktop etc etc!!!! Taskmgr.exe didn’t work for me either! PLEASE try the steps I suggested…in order! IT WILL WORK!!!!
THANK YOU SMURFIE
EVERYONE GO TO ITEM # 36.
JUNE 16, 2009
FROM SMURFIE
IT WORKS.
THANKS AGAIN, GARY.
i have tried everything that has been suggested on a number of websites and none of them work because i cant open any files and cant download anything. i have tried searching in the local hard drives and clicking run and entering taskmgr.exe but nothing works anymore!!! i can go on the internet but i darent log in to anything incase my details are stolen (which has just happened about 3 weeks ago!!!) if anyone has any other ideas i will welcome them but i think the only option to ensure it is completely gone is to wipe the whole computer (or format) and start again!
Dom…
shut ur computer down. If u can’t safely shut it down…turn it off, then turn it back on. Continue to hit F8 when u see the lights on ur keyboard light up.
Try what worked for me, again. Step by step.
I’ve tried everything suggested on this list but nothing worked. It wont even let me open Norton! I actually found some of the files it says are infected. The files are important files for the computer. The ones that keep it running!! It wont let me go no add/remove, it shut down my internet access. I’m using my 98 right now. Wanna here something stupid? It says notepad is infected! I dont know when to F8 for safe mode, I tried pushing it every spot I could but it didnt work. It doesn’t let me do anything that even hints the possibility to remove it. I am at my wits end here.
Oh yeah….and it was completely FREE :)
OK. This worked for me after 13 hours of trying to beat this sucker…all of my .exe files were being blocked by this virus…therefore I could not run task manager or registry…as so many sites had suggested. Plz keep in mind I am not computer savy. I have Windows XP.
1. Go to Malwarebytes.org and download thier FREE software. Yes, this virus will block it from being run at first…but save it to ur desktop.
2. Restart ur computer…when u restart…keep hitting F8 until u get the safe mode menu.
3. once on safe mode menu, arrow up or down to Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows Domain Controllers Only) and hit enter.
4. On ur desktop u will see the Malwarebytes icon…double click, and select “quick Scan”. This will take appr 15 minutes.
5. When scan is done, select show results. Then remove all threats.
6. After removal, it will ask u to shut ur computer down…allow that process.
7. Upon restarting of ur computer…u will no longer be in safe mode.
When I came back on, I was system security free…Praise the Lord!!!! I used the Malwarebytes again and did a full scan which took about 25 minutes, but had nothing wrong. I also went back and turned my System Restore back on.
I hope this works for u as well. I understand how frustrating this is! Best of luck! And be sure to install some excellent anti-virus programs when ur done :)
Managed to get rid of that annoying system security 4.51 virus….with the help of Norton 2009…. after 2 days of annoying hairpulling…. but the information related to my whole collection of pictures are missing… ie a blank icon is there instead of a jpeg thumbnail….. How do I get the information back for my beloved collection of family pictures I have collected over the years…..Any advice would be very much appreciated….
I followed Tara’s advice and I was able to locate the file, but it will not allow me to delete it…i am ready to snap!!!
This virus is so damn annoying, i cant run any program, it plays random music and sometimes it plays multiple commercial voices at once like its doing right now. it pops up every 5 minutes, you cant change settings, its absolutely no where on my computer so i cant delete files on it or even just delete it… im thinking i need to either 1:defrag my computer, 2:get a new computer, 3: kill the people who made this, or 4: kill the people who made this by sticking a bomb in my computer and throwing it throught their window… they think that by making it a virus they will get people to buy this crap.
I got system security 4.51 on my pc and it froze everything and I could not remove it until I provided my credit card info – then it unfroze my pc so that I could use it again, however, I immediately contacted my credit card company and had the transaction reversed, meaning that I do not have to pay
the $ 49.99 and the culprits bank will re-pay my credit card company as well as charge the culprit with a transaction fee – so it costs me nothing and the culprit will not make any money on me as well as be charged extra for the pleasure. In addition today, the icon the culprit placed on my pc finally disappeared (I originally removed the program through add and remove programs but the icon still remained – I’m sure that as soon as the culprit discovered that they were not getting paid the icon disappeared) Damn shame we have to play these games, but there are simple ways around this problem.
Reboot into safemode. have Malwarebytes installer on a memory stick or on your hard drive. install Malware bytes. run. fixed.
www.Malwarebytes.org
To all the dunces who say “use system restore!” – did it occur to you that we might have system restore turned off because it backs up viruses? Duuhhhhhhhhhhh.
First off you need to restart your computer during the restart you need to go into safe mode useing the f8 button before windows starts to open up.While in safe mode go into control pannel add remove programs and delet system security version 4.51 and after you do that make sure to scan your computer with any type of soft wear you have then restart your pc normaly and you should be good to go..
Reboot your computer in safe mode, then use system restore. Simple
i can’t seem to make anything work! whatever i click nothing happens! do i need to reformat my system? thanks…
What should I do if i’ve tried what you said to do and it still won’t work? How can you do it then?
omfg… I Figured it out !!!!!!
after spending TWO DAYS trying to get rid of this mal-ware and downloading numerous virus programs/ doing online scans TRYING REPEDIATELY to find the file, EVERYTHING….
I had the worse problem whenever I tried to open the Control panel a pop up from System Security would come saying the file is infected…. I couldnt play any games OR ACCESS ANY PERSONAL FILES ect. IM SURE U KNOW….
ANYWAY, I did a serch on my computer (because I was able to do that) I searched exe. and I found System Security but it was just the icon the file name was named 16232914 it was in my documents in the apps…. I took the system security right from that page and made it a short cut on my computer,
SOMEONE ELSE SUGGESTED THIS BUT IT WAS SO HARD TO FIND THE FILE….
after I set the icon on my desktop I restarted the computer… System Security freeses up abit upon restart, YOU NEED TO DELETE THE FILE RIGHT AWAY when you start up your computer (it doesnt have enough time to respond to the delete)
AND IT WORKED !!!!!
i PRESSED DELETE A MILLION TIMES TO BE SURE i GOT IT. BUT MY PROBLEM IS SOLVED.
MUCH THANKS TO THE PERSON WHO TOLD ME ABOUT PUTTING SYSTEM SECURITY ON MY DESKTOP !!!!
YOUR A GENIUS !!

itS REALLY FUCKEN BUSTED I CANT REMOVE ANYTHING FROM MY PC AND IF THE SYSTEM SECURITY IS INFECTED TOO IM GOING TO A COURT AND I TELL THIS STORY TO THE MINISTER OF JUSTISE
I had this the other day i try doing a system restore but it kept blocking me so i took my laptop to my local computer shop it cost me £15 pounds but i am very happy that its gone the guy in shops put some some new anti spyware.
I have tried 12 different methods to get rid of this WHATEVER but I finally killed it by doing a SYSTEM RESTORE TO A DATE 10 DAYS EARLIER WITH MY VISTA. The information I received from my sister who got it a month or so ago and as a prof took it to the computer dept. at her university to try to clean it- THEY COULDN’T. Her idea to me worked but only for a couple of days before returning. At least I can get my web pages a, d/l, print etc. even when the thing comes up again. So the RESTORE to an earlier date almost worked but at least I get the pop-up but am able to do my work. Hope this helps some. The info on the side page I tried but it didn’t work at all- that may be my senior moment or something I just didn’t do. I may have to call FUTURE SHOP or take my machine in for them to erase at my cost. Sincerely, Timothy Kritsch
