There are a lot of potentially unwanted programs that make use of legitimate applications to distribute themselves. WxDFast is one of them. This adware application does not arrive at your computer surreptitiously, as users install it willingly. However, you may mistake it for wxDownload Fast download manager. This download manager is a legitimate program that has nothing to do with adware or other potentially unwanted applications. However, WxDFast may get installed on your PC if you download the download manager from third party file hosting websites. If you find WxDFast extension installed on your browser, remove it at once.
The creators wxDownload Fast application seem to be aware of the fact that third parties are making use of their program to distribute their adware. There is a warning posted on the official website for wxDownload Fast at dfast.sourceforge.net. The warning reads:
ALERT: There is a malware using the name wxdownload (or wxdownloadmanager). The malware site use some of the original screenshots and texts. Be carefully. The wxDownload Fast original files are aways hosted in SourceForge.net
Thus, even though third party website may distribute the download manager or something akin to it, the installation file for the application WITHOUT any additional programs is available at the official website only. Not to mention that the official application does not install an add-on on your browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer), while WxDFast does. In fact, the extension is automatically disabled and blocked on Mozilla Firefox, because the web browser considers it unstable and potentially harmful.
Since it is an adware application, once it gets installed on your computer, you can expect a lot of pop-up advertisements appear on your browser. The commercial pop-ups usually appear on designated commercial websites. The pop-ups will be called “by WXDownload Deal Finder”, but once again, the original download manager has nothing to do with the commercial pop-ups. WxDFast may seem like a completely harmless adware application that helps you find useful deals when you shop online, but there is always a catch to it.
WxDFast does not REVIEW the third party content, and it indulges in embedding third party links into its pop-ups. Thus, whether you like it or not, WxDFast indirectly exposes you to potentially malicious content. You obviously click the pop-ups at your own risk, and if you happen you click an advertisement that contains an outgoing link to corrupted website, you might even get infected with malware!
That is usually not the case when it comes to having adware on your computer, but it is obvious that you should not ignore any type of potential computer security risk. Uninstall WxDFast via Control Panel and it will be enough to remove this application from your browser as well. Then acquire a powerful computer security application and run a full system scan, because there is a high chance that you have a list of other potentially harmful applications installed as well.
