MusicTab Newtab is a browser extension popular in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Iran. Since it may alter the user’s browser preferences like default user’s search engine or homepage and could show unreliable advertising content, the application falls under the classification of potentially unwanted programs. Therefore, if you do come across with it, we advise learning more about it before adding it to your system. Further, in the text, we discuss the extension’s working manner, its possible distribution methods, and its removal. Getting rid of the potentially unwanted program is not particularly complicated, but less experienced users may need some help, which is why at the end of the text we place our specialists’ prepared deletion instructions. Naturally, if you decide you want to erase MusicTab Newtab from your browser manually, you should take a look at these steps. However, first, we encourage you to learn more about the extension by reading the rest of our report.

Many potentially unwanted programs travel with bundled software installers, and it is entirely possible MusicTab Newtab could do so too. In other words, users might come across it accidentally while installing some unrelated program they found while browsing the Internet. Installers bundled with unknown freeware applications are often spread through various file-sharing websites and pop-up ads, so you may want to watch out for such content if you wish to keep your system clean. Of course, it is just as essential to research tools you install before doing so, especially the bundled ones. Keep in mind, some setup files allow seeing or deselecting additional suggestions only after choosing custom installation settings, which is why we advise selecting this option whenever you can.

After being added to Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox (the browsers it is compatible with), the potentially unwanted program may replace user’s homepage or new tab page with a site of its own. It could be called newtab.getmusictab.org or similarly. Our specialists noticed MusicTab Newtab provides a search engine that uses a modified Yahoo version. Meaning, the results might be gathered with Yahoo, but they might still be altered. We believe the extension could use this to show users advertising material from various third parties. That is because the software’s End User License Agreement and Privacy Policy statements talk about third-party ads that could be displayed to the user. Also, the papers mention MusicTab Newtab’s creators claim they are not responsible for such content and cannot guarantee it will be reliable. Having in mind, it may come from multiple third parties; it might advertise anything, including similar potentially unwanted programs, fake surveys or lotteries, potentially dangerous software, etc.

For those who do not want to have anything to do with the potentially unwanted program or the suspicious content it could promote, we would recommend removing it right away. As we said earlier deleting MusicTab Newtab manually could be a bit difficult for inexperienced users, which is why we prepared the instructions located at the end of this article. Users who prefer using automatic features could install a reliable security tool instead and scan their system with it. This way they could get rid of other possible threats as well. Not to mention if you keep the chosen tool up to date it might help you stay away from threats in the future.
