Despite what its makers want us to believe, it’s malware pretending to be legitimate. Yes, I know it’s hard to believe, but you’ve been lied to by anonymous internet people.

Antivirus sneaks in your computer and displays fake security threats. An Antivirus pop-up says “Malicious threats were found on your PC,” and it urges you to pay for a full version by clicking the “Protect My PC Now” button. Brace yourself for more stupefying news: There is no full version of this program.

Antivirus Plus screenshot Antivirus Plus — AKA AntivirusPlus — is more fake antivirus/anti-spyware software.

You can thank a Trojan or scam website for installing Antivirus Plus onto your computer. Once Antivirus Plus is in, Antivirus Plus tries to trick you into buying the “full” version of Antivirus Plus with fake system warnings, and by noting harmless files as dangerous.
