I just got this virus this morning. Here is what worked for me:
I already had Spyware Dr. installed (but the subscription was expired), but the virus made it inoperative (”unable to connect to spyware dr. engine”). So, per some of the previous posts, I turned off my computer, then when I turned it on the second my desktop showed up I opened task manager and ended the “sysguard” (mine had 4 characters before the sysguard.exe) – and note there were two sysguards in different places on the list, get them all.
I then uninstalled spyware dr., then downloaded it again from their site. Once the install was complete it instantly started scanning my computer and killed the trojan.

When I tried to run Spyware Doctor, I got a pop-up that said “Application cannot be executed. pctsgui.exe is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?”.
I also tried to remove it manually, but when I searched for the various files you listed in the Task Manager, search box, etc, none of them were there.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem Matt, my computer got the Nortel and its’ so annoying… im trying to find where in my task manager under the processes i can delete so it goes away. Can anyone help???
I have the Nortel (not Norton) Anti-Virus malware on my PC. Has anyone had success using SpyDoctor to remove it? I tried, but Nortel remains on my PC. My operating system is Vista.
I bought Spyware Dr after a search on the internet suggested it would remove the Trojan Antivirus 2010…………….it did nothing and I could not get rid of the virus. I then downloaded the free Malwarebytes and it seemed to get it of (there is a free version which is not just a scan but an acual cleaning) and although it seemed to work, the Trojan just kept coming back but in a new form so my computer is now in the shop……………but I did apply for and got a refund from Spyware Dr.
Iam also infected with the bloody ,fake Windows Protection Suite. It has become a menace on my Computer. Let me try Downloading Spyware Doctor and see if it works. 1st i re installed Windows Xp ,but the damn virus has again re-infected my PC.
I had this. I stupidly paid for spyware dr which did nothing. Read all the comments here and deleted using the search, it worked. But, should I now unistall Spyware Doctor? Is it a threat in itself..?
For those that cannot remove malware because Spyware Doctor won’t run, open the Spyware Doctor program folder, rename the pctsGui file then double click to run from the folder. Alternatively download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Rename the mbam-setup.exe to xxxx double click to install, update and perform Quick Scan :-)
I have the nasty windows protection suite on my computer. I downloaded spydoctor but when I try to open it nothing happens. Is there something else I need to do?

i bought the full version of malware removal bot.i got sucked in for $70.00 for 3 programs
the trial scan showed i had 774 problems .after purchase they went away.that was a month ago and i still 4-5 threats each time it scans showing same threats i will never buy another one i agree with the people who ask how do you know if it is a fake.is there any real programs. i got stung but never ever again. the internet is slowly commiting suicide.lets get together on this

My computer has been raped by System Security spyware. I have read numerous solutions…however this little devil overrides any solution offered (i.e., Spyware Doctor) etc. Does anyone have another solution to override this little bastard?

I know of a good freeware program that i used to get rid of windows security suite it’s called iobit security 360 it’s well worth the download it found a lot of spyware in my pc that my av program didn’t catch

Hey guys… it took me 4 hours to fix the computer from the virus system security which wasn’t letting me open anything. I started the computer in safemode, went to run and typed msconfig. From there i went to startup and disabled all the startup files, and also i went to control panel and deleted the system security. After i restarted the computer, it gave me a chance to install the new spyware which fixed it…. Hope it helps anyone else.. I know i felt like smashing the pc, but because it’s my jobs’ comp., i retracted….LOL
I use AVG FREE 8.5, and to get it, you have to type in free.AVG.com. download it, run it, and run a scan in safe mode. don’t try to use the restore points. Most likely, they are all gone like mine. Spyware Doctor is a crook.

this is must be illegal i bet people are being paid to make these viruses. i think (presume) antivirus companies are paying hackers so that the victims have to buy these packages!!!!

At least ClamWin is open source and Malwarebytes is free for non-automated scans. Spyware Doctor finds viruses, but you have to pay to remove them? What a joke.

Help, I downloaded Sd but now the System Sec 4.51 says I cant open because pctsgui.exe is infected and won’t let me run my spyware. Help what can I do?

I bought Spyware Doctor 6 – everything downloaded great , did the full scan on computer, but it did not detect Personal antivirus -why did i pay for something to remove it when it did not even detect the problem? ps full scan took 55mins
I too got the fun filled gift of that stupid antivirus pro thing and NOTHING worked however as I read alllll the comments one thing came up FINALLY!!! TREY THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!!!lol I did what he said and went into the windows task manager and in the processes menu ended the process

usually there is an option to change the default search provider under internet tools/options. If you are using firefox (which is the best browser IMHO) you can click the little down arrow next to the search bar, and choose either ‘find more providers’ or ‘change search defaults’.

I had the Antivirus System Pro virus that kept having the pop ups and icon in the system tray. I have McAfee, but that didn’t remove it. After reading everyone of the comments listed here (I like the disgruntled gunsman), I downloaded Spy Doctor (and ended the process sysguard.exe in my Task Manager as I read that the virus hid there). They are right. Spy Doctor scanned, but when I clicked on “Fix Checked”, it prompted me to buy it. I did not buy it. It wanted to run Intell-guard (or something like that). I did. It prompted to me to restart and it ran again. The pop ups and icon are now gone. Thank God…hope this helps.
I also counld not get any of these things to work. Scanners would not open. No .exe would run. I had a second hard drive with windows on it so I put my old drive in and set the infected drive as slave. Rebooted and ran virus scan and removed virus. Reinstalled drive and ran scan again. Has been working fine. This was a VERY nasty virus. Good Luck!!
i used opera browser and was able to download it but i cant open taskmanager… it keeps saying that taskmanager was disabled by administator

Ok well deleted the spydoctor, didnt want to pay.. even though i got threats, it says… but anyway, after doing the “Search” removal and first doing the “ctrl alt delete” end processes, i dont seem to be having anymore problems

Dont know wtf happened, i deleted it like it said.. Where you do Search, at first didnt work, then typed it in and did everything, deleted those. no more pop ups now, so thank god.. But im still a little, on the suspicious side, so i downloaded spyware…
It was weird, turned on computer this morning and its like saying all this stuff about my computers not protected, buy this, activiate this, someones trying to send my info out and such… then friend sent me this website, think i deleted it but not 100% sure..
Casalemedia – i get the same results.. Nothing show’s up on a search and S.D. does not find it.. yet every time I reboot, it shows up for me to buy a screen saver.. p.s. i also tried Malwarebytes with no luck as well… my p.c. is running slow now…

I am willing to give SD a try but right now it is not possible to manually edit the registry. And, every time a brontok file is deleted it replaces itself. And a few of the processes you listed have the same names as legitimate windows entities. How to distinguish one from the other in the Task Manager?
How am I supposed to trust something like this? My virus says it does the same thing, and it’s a virus… And the manual removal instructions are all useless and ineffective. How do I know it’s not a trick?
The exact same thing is happening to me. No matter what i try to download the System Security will not let me open it. It says the the file is infected. I can’t uninstall it either and i really need help.
Okay so I am not sure if this is the Virus I have, although my Windows Security Centre told me it was. When I try and open Internet Explorer, it opens for maybe 2-10seconds, once in awhile staying open for a minute. It wont let me open any sites that have information or downloads that coul maybe remove it. Firefox is a little better, but sometimes it dosn’t open at all. I have run both Spybot and AVG, but neither seems to be finding them?

when restarting your computer go into safe mode, from safe mode you can install the software that it doesn’t allow you to….you might have to download the software on another persons computer because in safe mode you may not have internet connection.

Just follow the instructions by downloading ‘Malwarebytes‘ Anti-Malware’ and let it restart your computer and such. I don’t have problems now.

All this would be great, except I can’t control anything! My mouse won’t move and this damn program pops up scanning with other windows even Internet Explorer pops up! The thing keeps poping up that the Spyware Doctor has a virus and the damn thing closes down the program before i can even start the scan. ANY USEFUL INFO OR LINKS?maybe even someones keyword so i can disable it?

just tried with Spybot and it worked. it completely removed the spyware protect 2009 you should try it too.
If you are having trouble with System security 2009 I found a way to kill it. My trial Spyware Doctor did not find it but the removal info on this site was helpful. its root is in the application area. I couldn’t delete its folder while it was up so I moved it to the desktop and restarted my computer. In the few seconds before it runs and freezes you up, quickly delete that folder. the file name for mine was a bunch of numbers and had the image icon in it. so far it hasn’t come up again.
I don’t think any of this crap works… system security 4.51 really messed up my PC. You can’t open any applications, you can’t install any anti-virus software let alone trying to get this Spyware Doctor??? Looks like I need to rebuild by PC and lose all my info and it looks like the rest of you will have to do the same… doesn’t look like anyone responds to these things anyway!!!

Tried downloading your application for free trial… it hung up for 2 mins for the last 0.1MB. Strange… maybe i do have the Conficker virus? I passed the eye check tho… will let you know how the manual removal works after i scan my PC. Spyware Protect 2009 has popped up 5 times while typing this!
pc tools antivirus hasn’t detected anything wrong with my computer but I am still getting the annoying pop ups of winpc and I can’t bear it anymore. Tell me if there is another way to remove it please. Thanks
Everyone had a lot of great suggestions, and I appreciate it, but none of them worked for me. After about 6 hours trying to figure this out, I ended up purchasing Spyware Doctor and I must say that did the trick. After 6 hours, for $29.95, it was worth it. One thing that has ahppened afetr everything was cleared up si every time I go to do a search in Yahoo, it goes through ToseekA? Does anyone out there know what the hell this is and how I can get rid of it? It does not offer the same quality of search and connection to the website I am looking for as Yahoo.
