I just got this virus this morning. Here is what worked for me:

I already had Spyware Dr. installed (but the subscription was expired), but the virus made it inoperative (”unable to connect to spyware dr. engine”). So, per some of the previous posts, I turned off my computer, then when I turned it on the second my desktop showed up I opened task manager and ended the “sysguard” (mine had 4 characters before the sysguard.exe) – and note there were two sysguards in different places on the list, get them all.

I then uninstalled spyware dr., then downloaded it again from their site. Once the install was complete it instantly started scanning my computer and killed the trojan.

When I tried to run Spyware Doctor, I got a pop-up that said “Application cannot be executed. pctsgui.exe is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?”.

I also tried to remove it manually, but when I searched for the various files you listed in the Task Manager, search box, etc, none of them were there.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem Matt, my computer got the Nortel and its’ so annoying… im trying to find where in my task manager under the processes i can delete so it goes away. Can anyone help???

I have the Nortel (not Norton) Anti-Virus malware on my PC. Has anyone had success using SpyDoctor to remove it? I tried, but Nortel remains on my PC. My operating system is Vista.

I bought Spyware Dr after a search on the internet suggested it would remove the Trojan Antivirus 2010…………….it did nothing and I could not get rid of the virus. I then downloaded the free Malwarebytes and it seemed to get it of (there is a free version which is not just a scan but an acual cleaning) and although it seemed to work, the Trojan just kept coming back but in a new form so my computer is now in the shop……………but I did apply for and got a refund from Spyware Dr.

Iam also infected with the bloody ,fake Windows Protection Suite. It has become a menace on my Computer. Let me try Downloading Spyware Doctor and see if it works. 1st i re installed Windows Xp ,but the damn virus has again re-infected my PC.

I had this. I stupidly paid for spyware dr which did nothing. Read all the comments here and deleted using the search, it worked. But, should I now unistall Spyware Doctor? Is it a threat in itself..?

For those that cannot remove malware because Spyware Doctor won’t run, open the Spyware Doctor program folder, rename the pctsGui file then double click to run from the folder. Alternatively download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Rename the mbam-setup.exe to xxxx double click to install, update and perform Quick Scan :-)

I have the nasty windows protection suite on my computer. I downloaded spydoctor but when I try to open it nothing happens. Is there something else I need to do?

I downloaded Spyware Doctor but it won’t execute, I think due to the spyware.
