Under the guise of a legitimate search engine, Youndoo is a browser hijacker that is set to modify your browser’s settings without your authorization, so you have to remove it to restore your previous settings. To be more specific, this malicious search engine replaces settings such as the search provider, homepage, and new tab page. Then, it presents modified search results that contain commercial advertisements of unverifiable safety. In addition, it is also set to collect information about you to customize the promotional campaign in an attempt to make more money. We want to stress that Youndoo will not improve your browsing experience because it was not designed to do so. For more detailed information, read this whole article.

Unfortunately, this hijacker only gives the appearance of a legitimate search engine while it will not help you in any way. Our malware researchers have tested it and found that, currently, it is compatible with web browsers that include Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. What makes this browser hijacker a hijacker is its distribution methods and the methods employed by Youndoo’s developers inject it into these browsers without your consent or any prior warning. As a result, it will replace the homepage of Firefox and the new tab page and search provider of Chrome. The developers count on you not to remove it from your browser so that they could capitalize on it.

Make no mistake; the whole purpose behind Youndoo is to generate advertising revenue for its developers and their advertising partners. The promotional links that are featured in this hijacker’s search results may come from untrustworthy entities, so in some cases, you may encounter malicious websites or malware downloads, particularly adware as online advertising is a gold mine for those capable of producing ad-supported software.

As mentioned in the introduction, this browser hijacker is configured to collect information about you. Our researchers have overviewed its privacy policy and found that it can collect information that includes your IP address, web browser information, and usage information such as date and time of the request, the amount of data transferred, and so on. This may seem like irrelevant, but the developers use this information to tailor the ads so that they would be in accordance with your interests and demographic information. This ensures that they have a steady stream of users clicking on the promotional links and making money for whoever is behind this browser hijacker.

Since Youndoo is considered a computer infection and its developers know that, they stay in the shadows and do not engage with the users. Thus, the company behind this hijacker is unknown. Nevertheless, we know that it is not the first or last time this secretive developer has released a browser hijacker. We would like to mention that this hijacker has many clones and hijackers such as YesSearches.com is a prime example. So there is no doubt that this hijacker’s developers are in the web monetization business and judging from the secrecy surrounding its owners/developers, we conclude that it is not a reliable search engine. In fact, it is far from it because the distribution methods employed by the developers point to this assertion.

Our malware researchers have discovered that this particular browser hijacker is being distributed using software bundles. You may encounter such bundles by downloading software from unverified software distributing websites that make money off bundling freeware with ad-supported applications and browser hijackers. To our knowledge, such bundles to not allow you to opt out from injecting Youndoo into your browser. Therefore, you should get rid of it.

The uninstallation of this browser hijacker is pretty straightforward. It has an uninstaller that you can run from Control Panel, but our researchers have found that it does not remove its Dynamic Library Link (.dll) file, but renames it to .dllez7. So we suggest that you use our guide to delete it manually.
